The future is bright...

Today I had the pleasure of visiting some of our great customers and spending the day in trade together with our regional On Trade team 🍻🍻 In my role, I value these direct talks with our customers, as they always provide important insights, feedback and a lot of fun. Some reflections and highlights from today: 1. Asking our customers is a direct source of insights about consumer behavior, selection of brands, and indicators of new growth opportunities 2. Observing execution of brands in outlets give inspiration from within our own category and outside category. New initiatives constantly being tested, and customers to share feedback 3. Distribution building of our new innovations is in our DNA, and today we did exactly that which gave great insights in to how to continuously improve and accelerate 4. Having fun doing it. If Carlsberg did teams… Today is my last day as leader of this absolutely awesome bunch of human beings. I’ve been blessed this past year or so to have witnessed true talent, to have experienced pure passion and pride, and to have been left truly humbled by those around me. As a team we’ve ridden huge waves of change, embraced new ways of working and always emerged stronger, better and more united than ever. The last few weeks have been the toughest we have worked through. But faced with adversity and the knowledge our time together would soon be up, what did they do? They showed up and they stepped up, for each other, for the business, for me. The way these journalists have navigated this process surrounded by their own fears and uncertainty is nothing short of amazing, and every single one of them will go on to do great things. There’s a saying, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade - these guys made champagne. It fills me with hope, not despair, for the future of our industry. As has the reaction of those around us, both inside and outside of Reach plc.   Many colleagues, past and present, have been by our side throughout this process and I know this has been a difficult time for them too. Some have been left not entirely sure what to say. But the fact they have made the effort to say something, the fact their support has been unwavering, the fact they feel the pain as much as we do says more about our company than any headline redundancy figure ever will. For it’s these people who are the future of the firm and for that reason it still shines bright. I’ve said this in a roundabout way a few times but as my team exits stage left, I’ll say it again for anyone who needs to hear it today: “Redundancy is not a reflection of your worth, but a result of circumstantial factors.” - Author Unknown. Never stop believing.

Thank you SUNTORY BEVERAGE & FOOD EUROPE and everyone I've met along the way during this beautiful chapter in my journey 🙏🏻 I was brought in to SBFE to harness insights and innovation capability for a newly formed Rapid Agile Product Innovation Development Squad (aka RAPIDS), an exciting, all star team that came together to take opportunities from ideas to in-store commercial testing in record time, pivoting, learning, done not perfect, but always determined to JFDI! We got really good at it, saw a few products go to market, and built an agile playbook that kept us going during lockdown...which also gave us a true competitive advantage coming out of it! Then, as the winds of change brought new leadership, new central teams, stronger ties to Japan, opportunities to collaborate with our colleagues at Beam Suntory, we began a more focused, determined innovation path and started building new capabilities and ways of working. I led the gemba, stewarded new consumer-led propositions, came to understand cultural codes that unlocked opportunities across different categories and once again was able to capture learnings that have become part of the Suntory Way and that others will continue to build on. Agility. Exploration. Perspective. It's who I am and what I do. It's also what keeps me looking for what's next and where I can continue to grow and learn. As we continue to bring Distell, Namibia Breweries and Heineken South Africa together (one of The HEINEKEN Company’s biggest M&A deals globally in a decade), last week we had a day to celebrate and reflect on some of our achievements as a team over the last 3 months… 📚 Closed the chapters of three businesses and delisted Distell from the Stock Exchange (as we power future local growth with our €2.5 billion investment) 🤝 Engaged masses of political stakeholders (including the Presidents of South Africa and Namibia) on the deal’s wide-ranging public interest commitments which will fundamentally improve economic & social inequality in Africa 📖 Opened our new chapter together and started to define our business strategy, narrative and culture (as we welcome over 70 new wine & spirits brands into our family) 💚 Announced a new Managing Director & Management Team, and produced loads of content to deliver x3 big multimedia Town Halls to introduce them to our 5,000 colleagues (not to mention then putting on 30 Live Teams Events as we roll out our new operating model with change champions by our side) 💫 Hosted our Global CEO for a week which included multiple TV broadcast, live radio, online and print interviews (generating reach of +189 million) 👂Continued to listen to our customers as we take them with us on this journey (with our sales teams remaining at the heart of partnerships & a comms plan in place for the coming months) 🥁Launched a vote to all colleagues on our new name… then started rolling out the HEINEKEN Beverages corporate branding across our 80 offices & production sites (buildings, websites, letters, email signatures, welcome gift packs for all employees and much more…!) 🧑💻Nuanced all our messaging as best we can for the hugely complex set of carve-outs the deal creates (cutting across companies & multiple international geographies) 🍻Most importantly we’ve managed to have some fun and a few laughs as we learn along the way 🤪😂 I might have led this little integration comms team (and we know everything hasn’t always been perfect 🫣) but it takes a village so a shout out to agency partners 🙏, the integration office for constantly keeping our comms 🚂 in check (Eva, Ryno, Joost & my side-kick Yvette 🥰) functional teams for ongoing collaboration 👊, global and regional colleagues for steady guidance (particularly David) and so many others who have played a key role along the way (Tamsyn, Frank, Pravashini & Beverly to name a few)🫶 With our MD Jordi Borrut and his fantastic new team, the Heineken Beverages Corporate Affairs gang (under the guidance of Millicent Maroga 🤩) look forward to sharing more with all stakeholders across Southern & Eastern Africa over the next few months as the journey continues… stay tuned! 🍻🥂
