PRODUCT DETAILS
This model represents the Ki-61-Id variant of the Hien fighter aircraft, which was adopted by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) in 1943. Known for its liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, slimline fuselage, and long, elegant wing, the Hien stood out among its Japanese contemporaries in the Pacific War. This model features silver color plated parts and camouflage pattern decals for finishing. With a length of 187mm and a width of 250mm, it accurately depicts the Ki-61-Id HIEN. About the Hien: Officially adopted by the IJA in 1943, the Hien was a versatile fighter aircraft that saw action in the Pacific War. Its long, elegant wing and slimline fuselage, combined with a liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, set it apart from other Japanese aircraft of the time. The Ki-61-Id variant, which is the most prolifically produced, was characterized by a 20cm-elongated nose to house 20mm cannons and 12.7mm machine guns in the wing. Its superior performance at higher altitudes made it a formidable opponent against incoming U.S. B29 bombers. One notable unit that deployed the Hien was the 244th Air Group led by Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi.
