Revell P51D 1:48

This was a truly disappointing build.I have to believe that this model was intended to be displayed with the landing gear down and cockpit open although the instructions do show assemble with gear up and canopy closed. The tail wheel doors are molded as part of the fuselage in an open position so had to be cut off and glued closed. The canopy does not fit the cockpit opening nor does it line yp with the windshield. It looks like they put a 1:72 canopy in a 1:48 scale kit. In order to display with the canopy closed I had to cut off half if the pilots head and when the canopy rails finally were able to meet the fuselage it was 1/8 inch below the rear edge of the windshield. Finally the kit comes with one of the worst decal sets I have ever worked with. Unless you soak them until they literally float off the sheet they tear when you try to slide them. If you do let then soak until they float they are too brittle andany flex will break them. All in all a very difficult and disappointing build

Sadly the boom years of this hobby were long ago and even the models you can still get from Hobby Lobby were first molded decades ago and those molds are getting sloppy. This P-51 however looks crisp and clean. All the pieces were still attached to the trees and the decal sheet looks brand new. Instructions for this model are exceptional. Once assembled it's a beautiful plane.

This P-51 Mustang is another great historic aircraft model from WWII . All model kits, especially Revell-Monogram, are like taking a time travel back into history. They are actually three dimensional views of an era that used to be. The more accurate the aircraft model the more realistic the experience of enjoying great planes from the past. This kit is only one of many that anyone who wants to keep dreams alive can do so by building these great model kits.
Revell/ monogram should be ashamed.

The plastic that the modeel is made from is real soft. This makes the sanding of seams difficult as it frays when sanded, even after priming several times. The fit of the two fuselage halves is miserable to say the least. Not the worst I have had, but right up there.
