20 Ways To Celebrate Pride In San Francisco This Year

If you're curious to learn more about LGBTQ+ history, check out the Exploratorium and hands-on science museum, which on June 9, is hosting After Dark: Pride - Unheard Stories, an exploration of unheard LGBTQ+ stories, both past and present. Stories will examine forgotten histories, resilience, and achievements of LGBTQ+ identifying people. You can get your tickets at the Exploratorium's website. 

The W San Francisco is presenting "Long Live The Queens" as part of their Pride Month celebration! Stop by the Living Room Bar at the W and enjoy delicious cocktails and a seasonal menu, all while living it up with an incredible drag show featuring the legendary Heklina, Carnie Asada, Landa Lakes, and Madd Dogg! Did I mention there'll be photo-ops after the show with the Queens? You can get your tickets for the June 10 show at Eventbrite. 

On June 11 and June 12 in Golden Gate Park, you can be part of history and see the largest display of the historic AIDS Memorial Quilt in San Francisco. Not only that, but the display marks the 35th anniversary of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, and features nearly 3,000 hand-stitched panels. For any cinephiles reading this, you have to take a look at the incredible programming schedule for Frameline46's 2022 LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Originally founded in 1977, the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival is the most well-known and longest-running LGBTQ+ film exhibition in the world. Check out their website to learn more about its signature showcase of LGBTQ+ cinema, presented over 11 days this June.  

All month long, you can take in the dazzling Pink Triangle Commemorative Display that sits high atop Twin Peaks in the center of San Francisco. The symbol, which was originally used during World War II by Nazis as a way to identify and shame homosexuals, has since been reclaimed and embraced by the LGBTQ+ community as a symbol of pride. The Triangle can be seen up close on Christmas Tree Point Road. More detailed directions, as well as the in-depth history of the symbol and its usage, can be found on The Pink Triangle's website. 

Presented by Reparations and comfort collective, PianoFight will be hosting an entirely Black Drag Cabaret, complete with food and drink on June 19 from 1–6 p.m.! You can get tickets here. 

Also at PianoFight, and presented by The Transgender District and Opera Paraellele, classical music lovers out there have to check out this free (yes, free!) event which features a showcase of transgender and agender classical artists. June 22, 2022, will mark the Castro Theatre’s 100th anniversary! The historic theatre will also be hosting several films from the Frameline46 LGBTQ+ festival, so this is a 2-for-1! Most shows at the Castro are also preceded by live performances on the Castro’s organ, which isn’t as eerie as it sounds. If you're looking to show some hometown pride and embrace your sporty side, carve out some time on Saturday, June 11 for the San Francisco Giants' Pride Day event! Hosted at Oracle Park, all members of the LGBTQ+ community, including friends and family are invited to join the Giants and show off their pride! Partial proceeds are donated to charity, and the team will be sporting some Pride-colored SF logos on their caps and jerseys throughout the day! Tickets and more info can be found here. 

If you're a lover of historic theatres and melodramatic singing, then I've got the event for you! The San Francisco Opera is hosting an LGBTQIA+ Pride night on Saturday, June 18 after the evening's performance of Don Giovanni. The event and activities will be hosted by the incomparable Donna Sachet and include a Lip Sync for Your Life: Aria Edition. Designed purposefully to provide space for the queer community to hang out without alcohol, Milk SF cafe located on Mission Street is hosting a queer Maker's Mart on June 26. Stop by and partake in some delicious coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages! More information can be found on their website. 

Slowly but surely, this list will become all about food. If you're a foodie like me, be sure to check out Kokak Chocolates' Say it Louder 16-piece truffle collection, which will be available all of Pride Month 2022. June 17, 2022 is also Kokak's 2nd anniversary, so overall, there's just a lot to celebrate this month! Check out their website for more details! 

On June 11, 2022, NIDO's Backyard in Oakland will be hosting their Big Gay Brunch Dates. If you're looking to meet and mingle this Pride Month, this is the event for you! Complete with a cool outdoor setting and a delicious brunch menu, tickets for this brunch event (which is open to men 30 years and older who are attracted to men) can be found here. 

Musical Theater lovers unite! You can celebrate the New Conservatory Theater Center's 40th anniversary with Encore, a musical revue featuring performances of songs from over 50 musical productions that have previously been performed at NCTC. From Avenue Q, Dirty Little Showtunes, Head Over Heels, and more, you can get your tickets for this show here, which runs through June 12. 

This crawl, happening on June 18, will feature some amazing drink specials, waived covers, and an awesome after-party! Stopping at Beaux, Blackbird, Hi Tops, Last Call, Lookout, and Midnight Sun, Pride Crawl SF is undoubtedly the proudest crawl of the year! More information and tickets at Eventbrite. 

Happening Sunday, June 5 at OASIS, fashion lovers of all kinds have to stop by this freaky and certainly chic evening of design and style! Starting at 5 p.m., you can shop and peruse some stylish wares all made by local queer and allied artists within the Fashion Bazaar. Then, beginning at 6 p.m., designers will present their collections in a whirlwind of performance runway art. Tickets and more info at Eventbrite.  

There's a ton to do in and around Mission Dolores Park this Pride Month! For one, if you're a lover of barbecue, and looking to do something summery and fun this Pride Month, check out this Bi-BQ event happening in Mission Dolores Park On June 22! This potluck-style, community-organized event can be RSVP'd to on the Bloom Community site, located here. 

And, on June 25, San Francisco's Dyke March is officially back for 2022! The rally and cultural event features both artists and political activists and will begin in Mission Dolores Park. For more information, you can check out the event's website here. 

Finally, hosted by the absolutely inimitable Juanita MORE! this Pride Party is one of the only nonprofit events over pride weekend in June. Proceeds from the event go to Q Foundation, now in its 18th year, which is a San Francisco-based non-profit that works to strengthen and assist households throughout the SF area.
