San Francisco Pride 2017: Parade routes, street closures, and more (updated)

Update: SFist reports that there will be an increased police presence at this year’s LGBT Pride festivities, with both uniformed and plainclothes officers on duty to monitor public events.

And large bags won’t be allowed during the Civic Center party following the parade. According to SFPD, “Bags are discouraged. If you must bring a bag, it can be no larger than 18 inches x 18 inches. Bags are subject to search and there are no lockers for storage of oversize bags.”

San Francisco Pride has arrived, celebrating its 47th year with a kick-off event starting Friday in Dolores Park and ending late Sunday evening in Civic Center. Like every Pride celebration prior, this year’s promises to be the biggest yet, drawing well over one million people into the city.

Here’s a short, but helpful breakdown of everything you need to know about San Francisco Pride, including street closures, public transit reroutes, parking, and more.

Street closures, transit reroutes

Friday, June 23: Trans March

• Before the Trans March, there will be a brunch and rally in Dolores Park beginning at 2 p.m., with the march happening at 6 p.m. The march will start at Dolores and 18th streets and end at Turk and Taylor.
• From 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. the following streets will be used as the procession marches: Dolores Street, Market Street (between Duboce and Sixth Street), and Taylor Street.
• The intersection of Taylor and Eddy will be closed for most of the evening.

Starting Thursday, the following street closures begin:

• Grove Street between Polk and Larkin streets will be closed until 6 a.m., Monday
• Fulton Street between Hyde and Larkin streets will be closed until 3 p.m., Monday
• Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place between McAllister and Grove streets

Starting Friday, the following street closures begin:

• Polk Street between Grove and Market streets
• Dr. Tom Wadell Place between Van Ness Avenue and Polk Street
• Larkin Street between McAllister and Market streets
• Grove Street between Hyde Street and Van Ness Avenue
• Intersections: Grove and Polk streets, Polk Street and Lech Walesa, and Grove and Larkin streets.

Saturday, June 24: Dyke March

• Rally begins at 11 a.m. in Dolores Park. Dyke March parade starts at 5 p.m. and heads from Dolores Street along 18th Street to Valencia Street to 16th Street and up into the Castro to 18th and back to Dolores Park this year.
• Dolores Street between 17th and 20th streets will be closed from 10 a.m. to midnight.

• 24 Divisadero & Owl
• 33 Ashbury/18th
• 35 Eureka

Other closures of note starting on Saturday:·

• McAllister Street between Van Ness Avenue and Hyde Street
• Intersections: Larkin and Polk streets at McAllister
• Hyde Street between McAllister and Market streets
• Intersections: Grove and Fulton streets at Hyde Street
• Golden Gate Avenue between Van Ness Avenue and Leavenworth Street
• An extension of Polk, Larkin and Hyde streets northerly to Turk Street
• All alleys within the closure boundary

Sunday, June 25: San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade

• Beginning at 10:30 a..m.. the parade runs along Market Street from Beale to Eighth Street. The march will proceed west on Market to Hyde and Eighth streets, where it will funnel off from Eighth Street and in Civic Center. Don’t even think of driving into this area, because you can’t.
• Market Street from Steuart Street to Van Ness Avenue will be closed for the parade. All intersections will be closed to cross traffic, which should end at around 5 p.m.

The following streets will be closed on Sunday:

• Beale Street from Market to Folsom streets
• Main Street from Market to Folsom streets
• Spear Street from Market to Folsom streets
• Steuart Street from Market to Folsom streets

Muni Impacts:

All Muni lines that typically run on Market Street will be rerouted to Mission Street, just one block away. Service that normally travels on or crosses Market Street will be affected by the parade.

How to get to San Francisco Pride

To get to all events, we recommend walking or biking. If you’re taking public transportation, SFMTA and BART recommend purchasing weekend-long Clipper cards to avoid crowds and long lines.

SFMTA staff will also sell fare receipts so you won't have to wait for a vending machine.
