'6 Underground' is one and done, the head of movies at Netflix has confirmed.
Directed by Michael Bay and starring Ryan Reynolds, '6 Underground' debuted on Netflix back in December 2019.
The action movie received polarising reviews but attracted a good audience viewership.
Netflix reported that 83 million members watched it in its first four weeks of release.
'6 Underground' depicts a tech billionaire as he recruits a team of international operatives to take down a cruel dictator.
Mélanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Ban Hardy, Adria Arjona, Corey Hawkins and Dave Franco played supporting roles.
Scott Stuber, Netflix’s movie chief, told Variety that the movie won't be getting a sequel.
"We didn’t feel like we got there on that one creatively," he said. "It was a nice hit, but at the end of the day we didn’t feel like we nailed the mark to justify coming back again.
"There just wasn’t that deep love for those characters or that world."
'6 Underground' thus won't be following in the steps of Netflix original features 'Extraction' and 'The Old Guard', which were both action movies featuring an A-list lead (Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, respectively), which have both gotten the green light for sequels.
However, if you are looking for more Netflix original movies starring Ryan Reynolds, fear not.
